How to keep your artwork looking its best​

For original artwork

I use professional artist materials selected for their lightfastness and archival qualities. To help keep your artwork looking its best, I recommend framing it behind UV-protective glass and displaying it away from prolonged direct sunlight.

Handling pastel artwork

Pastel artwork should be handled carefully and should not be touched directly. The oils from your fingers can mark the surface, and pastel can be smudged if touched.

Pastel portraits are not normally sprayed with fixative. I use surfaces such as Pastelmat that hold the pastel securely without necessarily requiring a fixative. This helps preserve the vibrancy of the colours, as some fixatives can subtly alter the appearance of pastel.

For this reason, pastel artwork should always be handled carefully and ideally framed behind glass.

Looking after your prints

Keep prints away from prolonged direct sunlight and, where possible, frame them behind UV-protective glass or acrylic to help protect the print from prolonged UV exposure. Avoid displaying them in areas with excessive moisture or humidity
