About Dogrose & Catnip

A lifelong love of art and animals

I've been drawing animals for as long as I can remember. At school, art was always one of my favourite subjects, but like many people, life and work eventually took over and I stopped drawing for many years.

In 2017, I picked up a coloured pencil again and rediscovered how much I loved creating art.

What started with coloured pencil gradually developed into pet portrait commissions in coloured pencil and soft pastel. I'm now continuing to develop my skills in other media, including oils, as I grow my collection of original animal artwork.

Animals are at the heart of my work

I've always been surrounded by animals, and living with them has given me a real appreciation for the little expressions, quirks and personalities that make each one different.

I currently share my home with two rescue Maine Coon-cross cats, and the loss of our beloved Boxer has reminded me just how important those memories can be.

That's one of the reasons I love creating pet portraits. I'm not simply trying to reproduce a photograph — I want the finished artwork to feel like that particular animal.

Wildlife and original artwork

Alongside my pet portraits, I create original artwork inspired by wildlife and the natural world. Wildlife has become an increasingly important part of my artistic practice, and I'm looking forward to developing this side of my work further.

You can see a selection of my wildlife artwork in the Wildlife Gallery.
